About Joel Freehling

- Joel Freehling is Senior Vice President, Energy Finance at ShoreBank. With assets of $2.5 billion, ShoreBank is America’s first and leading community development and environmental bank. At ShoreBank, Joel directs efforts to develop new loan and investment products that promote energy efficiency and alternative energy in low wealth communities in Chicago, Detroit, and Cleveland. Joel also serves as President of SBK New Markets Fund, Inc., an affiliated company, which was awarded $35 million in New Markets Tax Credits for investment in energy efficiency, renewable energy and green buildings in ShoreBank’s target markets.
Previously, he served as Manager, Triple Bottom Line Innovations at ShoreBank, where he directed ShoreBank’s sustainability efforts. He earned a B.A. degree with honors from the University of Michigan and a M.A. from the University of Florida and Stony Brook University. Joel is a board member of the Midwest Energy Efficiency Alliance.
